Invitation to Asian ERASMUS Program (Academic Year 2013)
for KUASU research fellowship

 

Application Guideline

Inspired by the ERASMS program in Europe, the GCOE program Reconstruction of Intimate and Public Spheres in 21st Century Asia at Kyoto University launched an experimental exchange scheme under the title of Asian ERASMS Pilot Program since 2008, aiming to promote exchange of academics and promising next-generation researchers/ students among Asian, European and North American regions, and hence to create cross-border networks of academic community. This program is upgraded to the Asian ERASMUS Program from this year and continued by a newly established organization: Kyoto University Asian Studies Unit (KUASU).

As a part of Asian ERASMS Program, we are inviting KUASU research fellows from overseas universities and research institutions who wish to conduct research work at Kyoto University on relevant issues within the field of Asian Studies, particularly the studies on Asia in a global perspective. APPLICATIONS for the academic year 2013 are accepted no later than Octoter 18, 2013.

1. Eligibility:
(1) Those who are currently conducting research in doctoral and post-doctoral programs and the like at KUASU overseas partner universities/institutions
(2) Those who are recommended by any one of the overseas partners (See our website for reference).

Those who are in full-time teaching positions are not applicable to this program.

2. Affiliation at Kyoto University:
The successful next-generation researcher will be affiliated, as a KUASU research fellow, to KUASU (Kyoto University Asian Studies Unit). The fellow can seek for the guidance and other research assistance from the academic members of KUASU who belong to various departments/research centers of Kyoto University.

3. Duration of invitation: Between 2 to 3 months during the period from December 2013 to March 2014.

4. There are 2 fellowship grants available for this year.

5. Financial assistance: The KUASU will provide a round-trip airfare for each person and a stipend of 6,500yen per day to cover basic living expenses according to the university regulations.

6. Submission of research products:
The researchers will be requested to submit
1) a written report within a period of 2 months after the end of the invitation period.
And,
2) publication based on the research activities during his/her stay in Kyoto, with clear accreditation to this program, by the form of an academic journal article and/or as a part of the program’s own publishing material.

7. Selection and Notification: The Selection Committee will conduct a selection and notify the result directly to the applicants.
